Apply for the residency

Chair Poet in Residence Program invites foreign poets and Indian poets from outside West Bengal to undertake a residency in Kolkata in the months of December and January. The writers are offered the opportunity to work on a manuscript and to familiarise themselves with city's heritage, culture and literature.

​The idea to have a poet's chair was born with the sight of the Arabian sea from Tushar's apartment in Malabar Hills, Mumbai. It was the month of end-May heralding monsoons in Mumbai in 2011...

​The 2019 edition of the Chair Poetry Evenings will witness poets and poetry from Portugal, Belgium, USA, Australia, France, Hungary, Chile, and from various corners of India. From the inaugural event at Jora Sanko Thakurbari and Walks through the City to Poetry on the Cruise in the Ganges, this annual festival will celebrate poetry in various heritage venues of Kolkata. Entry is free to all events except Poetry on the Cruise. Browse through our website, send us your feedback and join us in the celebration.
